Indications:

Supraspinatus Press test is a shoulder examination used to determine shoulder impingement.

Procedure:

  1. Patient seated with shoulder’s abducted 90° in the scaption plane (30° forward), examiner applies gentle downward pressure & observes patient.

Interpretation:

Positive pain or muscle weakness → Supraspinatus tendon/muscle tear

Clinical notes:

Versions of this test may be applied to any muscle where a tear is suspected, as it is resisted muscle testing.
