Procedure

  1. Patient standing
  2. Examiner instructs patient to bend one knee and attempt to touch heel to buttock, maneuver is repeated on the opposite side

Interpretation

Positive Standing Heel-to-Buttock

Pain, inability to perform maneuver, audible “clicking” or crepitus: Knee joint pathology, arthritis, meniscal lesion, ligamentous strain, internal derangement

Clinical Notes

Patients with quadriceps contracture or enlarged hamstrings may show decreased knee range of movement.
