Indications:

Push Button Sign test is a shoulder examination used to determine subacromial bursitis or shoulder impingement.

Procedure:

  1. Patient seated, examiner applies pressure inferiorly over the lateral muscle belly of supraspinatus.

Patient seated, examiner applies pressure inferiorly over the lateral muscle belly of supraspinatus.

Interpretation:

Positive Pain → supraspinatus tendon/muscle tear.

Clinical notes:

Versions of this test may be applied to any muscle where a tear is suspected, simply palpate the muscle & apply pressure; a positive result is tenderness or pain to palpation.
