Indications:

Hyperextension test is a shoulder flexibility examination used to determine if there is any abnormal hypermobility that is caused by sprains or tears in the ligaments of the shoulder joint between the acromion and collarbone.

Procedure:

  1. Patient seated shoulder extended & elbow fully flexed.
  2. Examiner passively extends patient’s shoulder & atraightens elbow.

Interpretation:

Positive Pain in shoulder → biceps tendinitis

Clinical notes:

Patients with MFTPs in the biceps brachii may also demonstrate reduced motion and/or anterior shoulder.
