Indications:

Scapular Winging test is a shoulder examination used to detect serratus anterior muscle dysfunction.

Procedure:

  1. Standing patient performs a “wall push-up” while the examiner observes from behind.

Interpretation:

Positive Winging of the scapula → Posterior medial winging → Serratus anterior (long thoracic nerve) lesion
Posterior lateral winging → Trapezius (XI n.) lesion
