Indications

Brachial Plexus Stretch test is used to reproduce radicular pain in the arms. If positive usually indicates cervical radiculopathy.

Procedure

  1. Patient seated or supine
  2. Examiner passively elevates straight arm, then externally rotates arms and holds in position just before onset of symptoms
  3. Examiner then laterally flexes head and extends wrist.

Interpretation

  1. Positive Positive Reproduction of radicular symptoms with wrist extension: Cervical radiculopathy (commonly C5).

Clinical Notes

Consider cervical spine flexion for further stretch brachial nerve roots (similar to lumbar flexion in maximal SLR).
