Indications

Achilles Tap Test is used to determine lower motor neurons at certain levels of the body and is a traditional method of assessing thyroid function.


Procedure

  1. Patient lies prone with both ankle relaxed and feet over the edge.
  2. Examiner then taps the Achilles tendon with a reflex hammer briskly.

Achilles Tap test is used to indicate lower motor neurons at certain levels of the body and is a scientific way to assess thyroid function.

Positive Achilles Tap Test

There is one indicator for a positive Achilles tap test.

Pain or lack of plantar flexion of the ankle: Achilles tendinitis, Achilles tendon rupture.

Clinical Notes

This test should be performed by a prospered trained health care practitioner. Compression on the tendon can cause pain and discomfort.
